Stop 2 Loch Earn… what rain?!

Well it seems no Scottish festival would be complete without some slightly dodgy weather; Saturday’s occasional rainshowers turned into a full on downpour for Saturday night- amazingly though no one seemed to the pay the slightest bit of notice as the campsite started filling up from Friday night. The riders came off the boat stoked about the flat water and the party people just kept on partying! It also provided the perfect excuse for some proper festival gear- wellies, short skirts/boardies, muddy legs and beer jackets were the order of the day/night as Joe McAuley, Phrase and the mighty Stereo Vandals kept the party tent bouncing.

Relentless shredder Jonty Green provided pro coaching all day Saturday, imparting his wake mastery to eager riders, before unleashing the full potential of the Nautique 210’s awesome wake. If you’ve never seen Jonty ride before it’s a little more than just wakeboarding- it’s a work of art.

As if to apologise for the previous 24 hours of wetness the weather gods decided to bless Loch Earn with totally unforecasted glorious sunshine and flat water all day Sunday! As always every rider threw it down from the rookies right the way to the top riders- Jonty’s expert coaching from the day before somehow managing to shine through the adverse effects of the previous night’s partying! The top riders took home a stack of prizes from big names including Fox, O’Neill, Mayles watersports and Loch Lomond Wakeboard, not to mention Joel Sayers bagging himself a holiday to Xtreme Gene. There were some big shake ups on the podiums along with a few notable absences, not least Loch Lomond Wakeboard protégé Ryan Butterworth due to a slightly dubious crotch injury… final rankings are by no means decided; Stop 3 is gonna be a proper showdown!

Massive thanks as always to the sponsors, Jonty, the drivers, DJs, Lochearhead Watersports and of course everyone who rode, partied and smiled all weekend regardless of the weather. Loch Earn lived up to and beyond all expectations in so many ways- we can only imagine what Loch Lomond has in store 12th – 14th August… see you there!

Stop 1 at Loch View Motel

The 1st of the Loch Stock tour stops got underway on the 11th and 12th June at Loch View motel in Dumfriesshire. Despite a pretty sketchy weather forecast the event was blessed with sunshine and flat water all weekend for the riders to enjoy. Satuday once again saw every set with Jack Hammersley and Kurt Graham completely sold out, with riders making the most of the expert coaching behind the stunning 2011 Nautique Super Air 210. Stereo Vandals once again took the roof off in the evening with a blinding VDJ set with new addition to the line up Joe McAuley warming things up. Proprietor Beano kept the bar open and the drinks flowing well into the night, not to mention putting up with a typically rowdy wakeboard crowd! There were yet more new faces one on the competition running order on Sunday, inculding the 1080 crew who travelled all the way from Birmingham to be at the event. The guys brought with them some serious competition taking home 3 podium places, not to mention a stack of prizes from Fox, Loch Lomond Wakeboard, O’Neill and Mayles watersports.

It’s great to see more and more folk making the trip to Loch Stock whether it’s to ride or just to enjoy the weekend atmosphere. The next tour stop takes us to Loch Earn where the festival spirit really kicked off in 2010. With entertainment and riding all day Saturday, followed by the legendary party with bands and DJ sets, (of course not forgetting the Sunday showdown!), more and more people are packing a tent and making the trip for the whole weekend. With so much going on it’s well worth it so why not do the same?! We’ll keep you posted on the Loch Earn stop but until then keep an eye on www.loch-stock .com for full results listings, sponsors and more!
