Stop 2 just around the corner!

Only a few days now until Loch Stock hits Loch Earn and it’s set to be an epic weekend! Not only do we have Ultrasport shredder David O’Caoimh to provide pro coaching all day Saturday, we’ve gone all out with a banging night event with bands and DJ’s to keep the beach bouncing till the early hours! As always we’ll have a full complement of Liquid Force and O’Brien demo gear, along with enough Relentless to wake the dead! And don’t forget some sick prizes to be won from Xtreme Gene and our newest sponsor Fox Clothing.

We have a few coaching sets left but they are going fast- if you want a set on Saturday then make sure you book NOW as once they’re gone, they’re gone! (Remember we can’t confirm your set until we’ve received payment). If you’re unlucky enough to miss David at the event, don’t panic as he’s taking up residency at Loch Lomond Wakeboard the week before and after- accommodation is available at the truly stunning Ardlui Retreat (www.ardluiretreat.co.uk) just up the road to guarantee you a holiday to remember.

Entry to the evening event is £10- there will be a fully licensed bar and restaurant running all weekend so no need to bring your own booze. Camping is available for the bargain price of £5 pp/pn although due to the wet conditions car parking won’t be available on site, however there is ample parking directly across the road so worry not!

Riding kicks off at 10am both days, with a rider briefing at 9:45am Sunday morning, don’t be late!

Loch Stock Stop 2 is set to go off so don’t miss it- see you there!

The LS crew

What to do if you’re not at Wakestock

This weekend I found myself one of the very few people from north of the border not at Wakestock. Determined not to spend the weekend wallowing in my own self pity I rounded up a few other lost compadres and headed through to Loch Lomond to ensure that riding in the top of the country carried on regardless! Fortunately another one unable to make it to Abersoch was Raymondo, who was diligently holding down the LLWB fort. Also left behind were long time riding buddy Guy, as well as my brother Nick who’d travelled 400 miles in the opposite direction to the legendary festival to visit home on a rare weekend off.

Unfortunately when we got there the weather was….well, pish. However after a bit of loitering and some heavy weather table tennis we climbed into wetsuits and fired up the winch for a very wavy rail sesh. A while later Ray returned with the boat (full of riders!) and we set off for a bumpy but high energy session. All smiles we headed back to the dock happy that we’d taken the gamble to ride in the chop. All in, you can’t go wrong at Loch Lomond; there’s always somewhere flat enough to ride, it’s always beautiful whatever the weather, and Raymond’s always there to make it worth the trip.

I’ll make Wakestock next year…

Loch View here we come!

Less than one week now till the first comp stop of the Loch Stock tour is upon us as we head down to Loch View Motel in Dumfrieshire. Last year’s tour winner and Liquid Force rider Kurt Graham is making the trip up fresh from the UK Pro Tour to provide expert coaching on Saturday. Sunday sees the first round of competition which, judging by the progression of Scottish riders in the past few years, should be intense! Riding starts 11am both days.

For all the last minute travellers there still is some accommodation left in small quantities so get on the phone and book now! www.lochviewmotel.co.uk for more details and for directions.

This weekend will set the tour off in style- if you ain’t gonna be there you’d better have a damn good reason!

See you there!

Loch Lomond coaching weekend nearly here!

Not even two weeks now till the first stop of the Loch Stock tour- that’s right, LS have teamed up with Loch Lomond Wakeboard and Liquid Force boards to bring Mr James Hooper up here to bonny Scotland (to be fair it wasn’t hard to persuade him!). The weekend of 1st and 2nd May looks set to go off with all the usual carnage expected; non-stop riding and partying throughout the weekend, guest DJ sets, and of course Raymonds legendary BBQ… did I mention a pro coach at your disposal as well?!

Spaces are booking up quickly, so make sure you sign up in advance- there may be sets available on the day but judging by last year’s event it’s unlikely. Riding 10-5 both Saturday and Sunday, and then demo sets and drinking. Don’t miss out this awesome opportunity by clicking on the “enter 2010” link above and getting involved. As usual feel free to drop us an internet mail message at team@loch-stock.com.

Camping and other accomodation is available, just give Raymond a shout on 07545561360 for more info.

Get yourself along, even if you’re just there for the party! This is just the start of an epic summer; so get involved, come and brush off the winter cobwebs, and let’s get it kicked off!

Remember the rest of the tour dates have also been announced, you have until 3rd May to get early bird entries in at only £90!

The secret is out!

I literally had no idea what to expect as I got close to Sallochy Bay on the east coast of Loch Lomond. I was heading over to join some of the usual suspects and some other new friends at the new Loch Lomond Wakeboard site for their first weekend of business. All I knew about the place so far was that it had a pretty sweet jetty and…  well that was about it- the guy’s had been so secretive about it I was dying to go check it out.

As I drove out the other side of Balmaha things started to feel a little bit more remote, and the wee bays more and more tranquil. I spotted the LLWB van from the road and pulled down the dirt track to be greeted by a rustic boathouse overlooking a glassy Loch, and Raymondo firing up yet another epic barbeque.

Not long after I arrived Scottish Stu turned up to join Dave Knight and the family, Tom Lomax, Kenny O, budding filmer Snowie and a handful of others, all enjoying the slow pace of life that the idyllic loch-side haven seems to make impossible to avoid. The boat went in an out as folk dropped in to ride, and a pretty competitive ping-pong tournament got underway on the salvaged table!

After a fine LLWB barbeque a monster campfire came to life down on the beach drawing everyone around and went on into the night with chatting, guitar playing, plenty of Tennents and even a speech from land owner and proud LLWB advocate Kevin.

I emerged from the van the next morning to discover the keen kids were already out making the most of the buttery loch. I grabbed a coffee and a chat with Raymond before heading out in the new Mastercraft skate/beginner boat with Dave and Duffy. An excited Raymond shotgunned first set in order to christen his new boat! And what a boat it is- crisp but forgiving wakes that still have enough pop to for DK to throw his super smooth W2W 180’s; I miss skating behind the old jetski but this boat more than makes up!

After a  spot of winching, and a 10 man mission to move a 30 foot static caravan the full length of a waterlogged field, sadly it was time to leave. I put my watch back on and time sped up to its normal pace as I headed back to the city, already planning my next trip over. I can only imagine what this place will be like when it’s fully set up- it’s already far more than just a wakeboard camp, it’s an escape, even if you’re only there for a few hours.

The guys are putting on some pretty sweet deals all the way through April to give you an excuse to get up there so give Raymond a shout on 07545561360 or check out www.LochLomondWakeboard.com for more info. And don’t forget Loch Stock will be there on 1st and 2nd May.

Happy days…

Not long now!

At University? Wakeboard?

Set up a University Wakeboard Club!  It’s great experience, perfect for your CV and it’s fun!  Persuasion is easy now it is BUSA recognized, get someone trained up to win the beginner category and you’re in the points.  After knowing how intimidating it is to set one up here is a bit of a hand, it is definitely worth it in the long run as that’s how we ended up here.

For all universities, the exact things you will need to set up a club (not society as this may prevent future funding) vary, however this is a basic guideline, and you can always email me at sam@loch-stock.com if you need a hand.

First of all you need to think what you can offer members. It is helpful if there is a lake nearby with year round facilities, as remember the majority of university time is during the ‘off’ season.  Plan your transport in advance, don’t assume there will be minibuses available through the uni, it isn’t as easy as it sounds.  We have done car pools with any extras coming and going by train.  This also means that the club may be there for the day but individuals with lectures can still get there.  You don’t need exact days just yet but speak to the owner and see if they can hook you up, remind them you will be bringing large numbers when they would usually be quiet, if they have a brain that should do the trick!

Alliance magazines are available for your club for a year subscription of 30 each issue.  You can either cover costs and use them to entice people to your amazing sport, or sell them and make money- we like this!

Think about what you personally can offer them.  For us it was unlimited access to Dunfermline as I have keys but also discounts at places we had organized for Loch Stock.  If you work, speak to your boss about something they can offer the club, they will probably support you for taking the initiative and even if they can’t help they should point you in the right direction.

Next you need a plan.  This should be a rough idea of where you, as president, plan to take the club within the set up year.  A few ideas of this is regular training, socials, weekend trips to LLWB, creating a presence at student nationals and following the Loch Stock tour.  This should be enough ammo for a meeting with your Sports Union (SU) president.  From here they will tell you where to go.

You will probably need a constitution and a safety policy, for this try and get a copy off a different club at your uni, they all have to have them.  We used table tennis and badminton!

From here on it is all specific to what your SU needs, but it is a good place to start and don’t wait for them to give the approval before you start getting people involved, do it now!!  Set it up on facebook as there is probably someone else out there willing to help; every time you go riding get it out on the internet so people know, even if it’s just one or two different people every time it is still spreading the word!

Wakestock Abu Dhabi press release

Wakestock Abu Dhabi, 4th – 6th March

The WWA Wake World Series is just around the corner and this year it
is the Middle East, in the form of Abu Dhabi, that will be kicking off
the season as part of this globe trotting world tour of wakeboarding.

Wakestock Abu Dhabi is set to be an immense weekend, combining the
ethos and vibe of the biggest Wake and Music festival out there with
the absolute best in world wakeboarding. The top ranking WWA riders
from 2009 and ‘all-comers’ will be battling it out alongside the Pro
Women for one of the few big ladies events this year, all hungry for a
chunk of the biggest cash purse of any contest on the 2010 event
calendar at $50 000.

Abu Dhabi have a truly visionary concept in their city with some of
the most incredible landmarks on the planet including the brand new
Yas Marina Racing circuit and the Ferrari theme park, and now
Wakestock will sit alongside some of the incredible sporting events
that the city is now hosting such as the Formula One, to become a
regular feature on their event calendar and the wakeboard circuit.

To help the city’s locals further embrace a love of wakeboarding and
the unrivalled beach side facilities in situ, Abu Dhabi Beaches, the
Municipality of Abu Dhabi and Flash Entertainment have been working
closely with the Wakestock UK team to promote all that comes with the
sport and lifestyle of this unique and pioneering event. Having
installed a System 2.0 a few weeks ago for a press trip promoting the
festival weekend, Aaron Rathy, Dan Nott, Nick Davies and Amber Wing
showcased wakeboarding for the public and press in all its glory
allowing them not only to see what the sport is all about but also
giving them the chance to take to the water for a proper taste of why
wakeboarding is so addictive. The System 2.0 has been in place since
offering free lessons to the public and will continue to introduce new
people to the sport right up until and through the Wakestock weekend.

The event venue could not be more perfect, sitting on the Al-Sahil
Beach at East Plaza on the stunning Corniche strip, the site offers
all the protection needed for butter calm bath water, close proximity
viewing of boat contest, Rococo Pool Gap event, the System 2.0 and of
course, the main stage. The free weekend event will have locals and
internationals alike bouncing to the beats of headliners Maximo Park,
De La Soul and more on the beach and in the water for a full three
days of festivities.

With Wakestock Abu Dhabi setting the temp for the season ahead, the
series will move on to Brazil and then return to Wakestock UK, where
it all began and where a few internationals have already had the
pleasure of joining us for the party!

Check out www.wakestock.ae for all the info needed to come join in
with all the fun or to get your competition entry form.
